Hiring Process

  1. Submission of Application / Credentials
    • Applications/Resumes may be submitted online, by mail or in person at 1718 N. Sterling Avenue, Peoria, Illinois.
  2. Successful completion of Peoria Area EMS System Testing Process
    • Paramedic and EMT candidates must contact the Peoria Area EMS office for information on the testing process.
  3. Credentials Verification & Background Review
    • AMT will conduct an employment review, certification review and a criminal background check on all candidates who qualify for the position.
  4. Candidate Interview
    • Following verification of credentials and references, candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the appropriate department manager.
  5. Candidate Ride-along Opportunity
    • Paramedic and EMT candidates will be asked to schedule a ride-along with one of our crews. Since we believe employment is of mutual consent, a ride-along provides a candidate the opportunity to interview AMT.
  6. Employment Offer, Terms & Conditions
    • Successful candidates will receive a written offer confirming the terms and conditions of employment including wages, benefits and a comprehensive orientation plan.
  7. Post Offer, Pre-employment Screening
    • Following an offer of employment, candidates will be scheduled for a health examination, agility test and a toxicological screening.
  8. Comprehensive Orientation Program
    • Covers operations, communications, workplace safety, disaster management, and emergency driving.
